For the first time with a new co-driver, Janni Hussi. We were the fastest on stage one which showed that our cooperation started well. Unfortunately on stage two we had trouble with our car; we lost the power and we were barely able to get to the finish. I tried to find the problem on the road section but I couldn’t find it and sadly we had to retire because the car was running only 30 km/h. The reason for the lack of power was the timing belt which was ruined and parts of it were stuck in the gear wheel. The timing jumped over two teeth and the engine didn’t work properly. Luckily the engine wasn’t damaged. I made a couple of phone calls and – with the help of good friends of mine in Toyota Service Tampere – I was able to get a reserve part number for a new timing belt. The belt was found in Mäntsälä where I went to get it on Friday evening. The new belt came in and our car was ready to compete again.
On Saturday we were the fastest on every stage.
Working with Janni was smooth and we both felt good. Not even the bad result overall due to the retirement could take away the satisfaction of being able to race in Lahti.Lauantaina kisaan mukaan ja olimme nopeimmat kaikilla erikoiskokeilla.
