Early June I was sitting in a rally car wearing a Toyota driving suit and my co-driver Janne Ferm was wearing a Hyundai driving suit. This must have been the first time in rally racing history. Janne Ferm is better known for being the co-driver of Esapekka Lappi. But now he was reading notes to me in the Rally Ostrobothnia. We had a great time racing with my Toyota Celica ST185 which ran nicely. The driving felt good and the car felt good until the alternator stopped charging.
We managed to get to the service but had to push the car the last few meters to the service spot. Luckily we had enough power to be able to get there at all.
The alternator was changed but unfortunately the car didn’t work. We had to retire. It wasn’t the alternator that was the problem, it was the regulator. The alternator was changed which led to a problem of having a wrong type of regulator in the car. Thus the car didn’t work. That problem was fixed afterwards by replacing the same kind of regulators in every car.
